Evolve is a team driven first person shooter game that is online only and is one of a kind. A four player hunting team on a quest to kill the player controlled monster before it evolves. This game takes true tactical skills and quick thinking to defeat the monster, especially if the monster knows what it's doing. Players connect in a lobby to join a team of four hunters, and a fifth player as the monster. The players who are the hunters will choose one of the four types which are: Assault, Medic, Trapper, and Support. These classes have their own abilities to heal, shield, trap, track and kill the monster. The most important class of all four in my opinion is, none of them. You need all classes to know their role to successfully eliminate the monster swiftly.

When you choose to play the monster you must eat creatures to heal and evolve your monster through its stages. When playing the monster, I learned its best to avoid player contact until you have evolved at least to stage two before you set out to attack the hunters. There are different game modes to play which are: Hunt, Nest, Rescue and Defend. This game can be frustrating at first but amazing once you understand your classes. Epic battles will happen if your team knows what they are doing and the monster knows what he/she is doing. This game is one of the best team based experiences I have had on the next gen consoles.

Story

Evolve is set on a planet, Shear, located in the "Far Arm" of space. The established valuable colonies, are soon attacked by alien monsters. As the monsters destroy the colonies on Shear, a planet tamer, William Cabot, is brought out of retirement to deal with these monsters, and to evacuate the remaining colonists from Shear. In response, Cabot assembles a team of Hunters consisting of war vets, psychopaths, professionals, and expendables to eliminate the monsters.
